Facilities
The Southridge Section #1 complex is a landscaped and “standard postwar issue” urban development comprised of 3 apartment buildings. Each building is assigned a “name” within the complex: The Ardmoor, The Briarley, and The Coverley. Each building has a ground floor Lobby Level plus six stories above. Each building has its own address on either 92nd Street or 93rd Street and is subdivided into two “buildings” (an eastern half and a western half), which is why the complex is commonly referred to as consisting of 6 apartment buildings.

NORC
Southridge Section #1, Southridge Section #2, the Northridge Sections #1, #2 and #3 Apartments (located immediately to the north on the opposite side of Northern Boulevard), and the Brulene (located nearby to the south, between 93rd Street and 94th Street, on the opposite side of 34th Avenue) comprise the Northridge/Brulene/Southridge [Queens] Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC).
Throughout New York City, NORCs are apartment buildings where large numbers of people have remained and grown older in the housing they moved into as young adults, a phenomenon known as “aging in place.” The Northridge/Brulene/Southridge NORC consists of a total of 31 building with 1,938 units; of the estimated 5,000 residents, an estimated 2,400 are over the age of 60.
NORC offers many services to those over the age of 60. They coordinate a broad range of health and social services to help support older residents to age in their own homes. NORCs do so by facilitating and integrating the health and social services already available in the community while organizing additional services and supports necessary to help meet the goal of enabling older adults to remain in their community.
